I tend to agree, a shorter name is a lot easier for tourists and the like- imagine being here from somewhere else in the world and asking a Kiwi where that place is, most people won't know but if it's located at Aotea Square, most people wandering around Auckland CBD know where that is.
graphical significance and learnings about the stream etc, could be on display outside or inside the station itself

Didn't expect such a great project to have such non inclusive names. Not sure it's really a Maori thing or AT dropped the ball.😂😂😂

The name was gifted to us by Mana Whenua. It’s a privilege to share that name and the meaning and history behind it.

Why keep Aotea when it’s in reference to Great Barrier island. Of course Te Waihorotiu should have its original name back.

The name was obviously intentional to start conversations, only locals would know Aotea

Valid criticism. Personally I like the name and the backstory, I'm sure it will become familiar over time

Kia ora bro. Fair korero. I'm Maori, and I agree with you. Te Waihorotiu will open conversation, but Aotea is more practical.

Maybe we welcome learning and decentering our individual selves. Taranaki used to be Mt Egmont. We move on and respect the name that honours the land and mana whenua.
