a lot of people don't understand that there is no law, anywhere that I know of, requiring a retailer to give a refund for any reason other than the item is defective. it's a big box retailers that allow Unlimited no questions asked refunds that really f**** small mom and pop businesses

My ex MIL would buy a dress for a wedding, tuck the tag in, wear it to the wedding and then return it the next day. Did it for the MOG dress at my wedding 🤨

ive had a few customers like this and found that they understand better if you ask them if they would buy items at a store that were in this condition, so items need to be resellable for us to take them back. they seemed to somewhat get it after that lol

Kohls would have taken them back. I worked there for far too long and in orientation we were taught to not accept returns like this but the moment we told the customer “no” they would call for management and management would give them the refund EVERY SINGLE TIME. I even refunded a woman who had running shoes she bought 7 yrs earlier that were clearly worn out but she had her receipt still so I had to refund her. This wasn’t a “our store only” issue. The vast majority of Kohl’s stores did this. This is the reason “Karen’s” exist.

I was an assistant manager at a clothing store . A lady came in to return underwear. I said NO. I was not taking them back. She was not happy, my manager was on the sales floor . She came over and said it’s fine . Take them back. I said ok. I took a pen to throw them in a bag , stapled the bag and wrote damaged on it. Right in front of the customer , with her saying I didn’t wear them. I ignored her and threw the bag on the back shelf. Manager was not happy. I did what she said to , but there was no way I was putting them back on the sales floor.

I worked at Rainforest Cafe in Disney Springs. One time this guy came in asking to return a bathing suit. It had a rainforest café tag within the clothing but clearly was years old and had been worn many times. When we asked why they wanted fo return it "I've gained weight and this suit is packed doesn't fit anymore." 😭

I can't imagine how many worn and/or soiled returns online clothes shops get. I know so many people who buy clothes for a special occasion, wear them and return them the next day and think that's OK. When I worked in a shop I would simply say, this is not a library when people tried it

i worked in a charity shop and we had one regular customer who always brought back returns with no receipt. one day she finally brought the receipt and made a huge song and dance about it only for me to find that she'd removed the charity tags and stapled them to the pockets. I told her I couldn't take it because of that and she said 'but I've got the receipt' okay ma'am, but you put STAPLES THROUGH THE CLOTHING!

I work in a retail call centre and get this all the time with shoes 🙄 they’ll order the shoes, wear them for a week, decide for whatever reason they don’t like the shoes and then ring me crashing out because the store refused their return/ refund because the shoes had been worn 🤦🏻♀️if I hear “As per Australian consumer law!” and “I have legal rights!” again it will be all too soon. I think it’s great that consumers have rights but majority of customers think it means we have to do whatever the customer says no matter what 🙃
