@magnoliapharmacy: Healthy people. No reflux. No heartburn. They gave them the drug for eight weeks anyway, then took it away, and a huge share of them developed symptoms they had never had before in their lives. Sit with what that means for everyone who has ever tried to come off this medication, felt awful, and decided that proved they needed it. Eight weeks is what the label says. I have people refilling this for nine and twelve years and not one of them ever made that decision. It just never got revisited by anybody. Tell me how many years you have been on yours. Just the number. There is a right way and a wrong way to come off these and doing it alone is the wrong way. Pinning this because I know what the next question is. I am not giving anyone a taper schedule in a comment box. Here is where the real guidance lives so you and your prescriber can work off the same page. One, search deprescribing.org and look for the PPI section, they have free handouts written for patients. Two, search “AGA Clinical Practice Update De-Prescribing Proton Pump Inhibitors” for the 2022 gastroenterology guidance. Three, search “Therapeutics Letter 111” for the plain language version with actual tapering options. All three are free. Read them, then go make the appointment. Do not do this alone.
