Africa's richest man just said the quiet part out loud: he doesn't need a son. 👀 In a September 2026 interview on Arise TV, Aliko Dangote was asked whether he still hoped for a male heir. In Kano, and in much of Africa, big family businesses are traditionally passed down to sons. His response? "Even if I had a son, I don't think the son would have done better than these three daughters that I have." He went further: "Sometimes, you can pray for a son, but that son might be the one to bring the family name down." And he isn't just talking. In February 2026, Dangote restructured his group and made all three daughters Group Executive Directors, each over a core pillar of the empire. 👑 Mariya, the eldest, runs Cement & Foods. She joined the group in 2016 as a strategy and risk specialist, led operations at Dangote Sugar, and now sits on the Dangote Cement board. 👑 Halima, the middle daughter, leads the Family Office and International Offices in Dubai and London. She started as an analyst at KPMG, ran Dangote Flour Mills and NASCON, and joined the Cement board in 2022 as one of its youngest members. 👑 Fatima, the youngest, heads Oil & Gas. That covers the Dangote Refinery, fertiliser and upstream exploration, plus group communications and procurement. She's a lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar, and she once ran her own cupcake business. Dangote says they joined the business because they wanted to, not because he pushed them. He believes their education and creativity could take the group even further than he did. But his biggest dream goes beyond family: "What I want to leave as a legacy is to industrialise Africa." From a $3,000 loan to a dynasty led by women. The future really is female. 💪🏾 Do you agree with Dangote? Should succession be about merit, not gender? Drop your thoughts 👇
