@_dove99: Bam was the one who found the article. Miu was sitting curled into the corner of their sofa with a blanket over her legs, a book open but unread in her lap. She looked up when a sharp gasp escaped Bam “What?” But Bam didn't answer her eyes still locked on her phone. “Bam.” She looked up. “You should probably see this.” Miu's stomach tightened as Bam leaned across and handed her the phone. The headline filled the screen. SCHUETT FAMILY ENGAGEMENT ENDS JUST TWO WEEKS AFTER ANNOUNCEMENT For a moment, Miu simply stared. Then she sat straighter. “Keep reading.” Miu did. The article was vague. A statement from both families claimed Lena and Anan had mutually agreed to end their engagement after deciding they were better suited as business associates. Miu almost laughed and continued to scroll. Another article had already been linked beneath it. SHOCK SPLIT THREATENS MAJOR BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP Another. LENA SCHUETT FACES FAMILY BACKLASH AFTER BROKEN ENGAGEMENT Then one that made Miu stop completely. INSIDERS CLAIM SCHUETT HEIRESS COULD LOSE SUCCESSION POSITION Miu read that one twice. According to unnamed sources, Lena's father had been furious about the decision. Several board members were apparently concerned about the damaged relationship between the two families and questions were already being raised over whether Lena would remain her father's chosen successor. Miu lowered the phone and Bam watched her carefully. “I’m guessing you didn’t know.” Miu shook her head. “None of her texts mentioned it?” “I stopped reading her texts last week.” Bam took the phone back. “So she actually did it.” Miu looked at her. “Apparently.” “You asked her to choose.” Miu swallowed. “I asked her to stop making me a secret.” “And now?” Miu looked back at the article. Now Lena had apparently risked everything. The business. Her inheritance. Her father's approval. All the things she'd spent two years telling Miu she was terrified to lose. Miu felt something shift painfully in her chest. It wasn't forgiveness. Not even close, but the anger didn't feel quite as clear anymore. That evening, after Bam had gone to bed, Miu opened her messages. Lena's name sat near the top and the last message had arrived three days earlier. -I know you don't want to speak to me. I'm going to respect that. I just need you to know I'm sorry and I’m going to fix it. I love you x Miu read it several times then locked her phone. She still didn't reply. . The flowers arrived Monday morning. Miu opened her apartment door to find a delivery driver holding a simple bouquet of white roses. Not enormous. Not expensive enough to feel like a performance. Just her favourites. There was a small envelope attached. Miu carried them inside before opening it. Lena's handwriting was immediately familiar. I'm not sending these because I expect anything from you. You once told me white roses make your home feel brighter and I thought maybe you could use something bright this week. I'm sorry, Miu. If you ever let me, I'd like the chance to say that properly. I love you. Lena x Miu stood in the kitchen holding the note for a long time. After a couple minutes of consideration, she found a vase. Wednesday brought chocolates. Also her favourites. The exact ones she always bought after particularly terrible days. Along with another note. I know chocolate doesn't fix heartbreak. I also know I'm the reason you need it in the first place. I'm sorry. No pressure. No expectations. I just hope you're okay. I love you. Lena x Miu should have been annoyed and if she was honest part of her was. She moved the chocolates next to the vase and carefully folded the note and put it in the kitchen drawer beside the first one. CONTINUATION IN COMMENTS ⬇️ #lenamiu #ThaiGL #wlw

PART 6️⃣ For a long time, neither spoke. Miu stared down at Lena's hand resting on the bench between them.
She had missed those hands.
She had missed everything.
Lena's voice. The little crease between her eyebrows when she was worried. The way she always turned her body towards Miu when they were talking, even in a crowded room where she was supposed to be pretending Miu was nothing more than a friend.
Miu hated how badly she wanted to move closer. “I still love you.” Miu whispered and Lena's breath caught. Miu looked up at her. “But I'm still hurt.”
Lena nodded quickly. “I know.”
“And I'm really angry.”
“You should be.”
“And flowers don't fix this.”
“I know.”
“The chocolates helped slightly.” A tiny laugh escaped Lena and Miu's mouth twitched despite herself. “The perfume was unfair.”
“I remembered you were running out.”
“Exactly. Unfair.”
Lena smiled faintly.
For a few seconds, they simply looked at each other.
The sadness was still there, but something warmer had started pushing through it.
Miu's gaze dropped towards Lena's mouth before she could stop herself. Lena noticed but neither moved.
Miu looked back into her eyes. “I can't go back to what we were.”
Lena shook her head. “I don't want what we were.”
Miu frowned slightly. Lena swallowed. “I want something better. I want everything with you. I want you to have everything I didn’t give you before.”
Something in Miu's chest tightened and she looked down again. Lena's hand was still resting between them, palm against the bench. Miu slowly reached across this time.
The moment her fingers touched Lena's, Lena went completely still.
She didn't grab her.
Didn't turn her hand.
Didn't assume.
She just waited.
Miu threaded their fingers together herself. Lena's eyes dropped towards their hands. Her bottom lip trembled. “I've missed that.” She whispered.
Miu squeezed her fingers. “So have I.”
Lena looked up. They were somehow sitting closer now. Miu wasn't even sure when that had happened. Their shoulders almost touched and neither moved away.

PART 8️⃣ Miu stayed close, she didn't pull away completely.
Their foreheads rested together now, their noses still brushing occasionally as they breathed.
Lena's thumb remained against her cheek. “I really want to kiss you.” Lena admitted quietly.
Miu gave a small, shaky laugh. “I know.”
“Very badly.”
“Oh I know.”
“Just making sure.”
Miu smiled. “I want to kiss you too.”
Lena's eyes softened. “But?”
“But if I do it now, I know myself.”
Miu swallowed. “I'll want to forget everything and go home with you and pretend we're fine.”
Lena's face became serious. “And we're not.”
“No.”
“We will be.” Miu looked at her and Lena immediately corrected herself. “I hope we will be.” That mattered.
Miu nudged her nose against Lena's again. “So do I.” Lena closed her eyes briefly.
They stayed like that for a while, forehead to forehead, hands tightly joined between them.
Miu finally pulled back enough to look at her wide eyes. “Did you say your mother earlier…your mum knows?”
Lena laughed softly. “My mother knows.”
“Everything?”
“Everything. She figured it out at the gala. Came to my house to ask me and I just told her everything.”
Miu's eyes widened. “How did that go?”
“Lots of crying.”
“From her?” Miu winced.
"Both of us." Lena nudged her shoulder gently. “She was heartbroken that I felt like I had to keep us a secret for so long. And she was hurt for you. And I think slightly angry at me for screwing up so badly…not that she told me that. I know I don’t need to tell you how much she adores you.”
“She’s always been very kind to me.” Miu swallowed the lump in her throat.
“She wants you at dinner again.”
Miu's smile faded slightly. “As what?”
Her fingers tightened around Miu's. “As my girlfriend. As the woman I'm in love with.”

PART 7️⃣ “Coffee.” Miu said quietly.
Lena blinked. “What?”
“We start with coffee.”
A shaky smile appeared. “Like a date?”
Miu gave her a look. “Don't push your luck.”
Lena laughed softly. “Right.”
“You earn my trust back.”
“I will.”
“Lena.”
“I know.” Miu watched her and Lena's expression softened. “I mean it. I’ve been telling myself this and my mother has been drilling it into me. Like I said, I’ll prove it to you.”
Miu wanted to believe her. Whether Lena actually could was something time would show. “Slowly.” Miu whispered.
“Slowly.” Lena squeezed her hand softly.
Then Lena lifted her free hand but stopped halfway when she realised what she was doing.
Miu noticed. “You can.” She whispered.
Lena's fingertips gently touched her cheek. The contact made Miu close her eyes for a second.
God she had missed her.
Lena's thumb moved carefully beneath her eye. When Miu opened them again, Lena was much closer. Their faces were only inches apart.
Lena's eyes dropped towards her lips and Miu felt her own breath catch.
It would be so easy.
One movement.
One kiss.
For two years, kissing Lena had been as natural as breathing. Miu wanted it so badly that it hurt.
Lena leaned forward slightly. Then stopped, looking into Miu's eyes…waiting.
Miu moved closer and Lena's eyes fluttered shut.
Their noses brushed.
Miu's heart hammered as she felt Lena's breath against her lips.
For a moment, she almost did it.
Then the memory of the gala flashed through her mind.
The announcement.
The applause.
The ring.
And Miu couldn't…not yet.
Instead, she gently nudged her nose against Lena's.
Lena opened her eyes and there was disappointment there, but no anger, no attempt to close the final distance. She simply smiled sadly. “Not yet?”
Miu shook her head. “Not yet.”
Lena nodded. “Okay.”

PART 3️⃣
They walked to a nearby park and neither spoke on the way.
Miu could feel the tension between them like something physical.
They eventually found a quiet bench beneath a line of trees. Miu sat at one end and Lena sat at the other.
The space between them felt enormous. For several seconds, they stared ahead. Then Miu spoke. “Why did you end the engagement?”
Lena looked at her. “Because it was wrong.” Miu turned. “I didn't just end it because I thought you'd come back. I want you back obviously. More than anything.” Her voice wavered. “But I realised I couldn't keep making every decision based on whether I could convince you to stay. I need to do what’s right.”
Miu stayed quiet.
“Even if you never speak to me again after today, I'm not marrying Anan.” Lena looked down. “I'm not doing that to myself. And I'm never doing that to someone I love again.”
Miu swallowed and Lena's eyes filled. “I'm sorry.” Lena breathed shakily.
Miu closed her eyes. “I know.”
“No.” Lena's voice broke. “You don't.” Miu looked back and Lena was crying now. Tears running down her face while she tried to keep speaking. “I hate myself. I hate everything about myself. I hate how much I hurt you.”
Miu's expression tightened.
“I let you spend two years being introduced as my friend because I was scared of disappointing my father.”
Lena wiped at her cheek. “You came to dinners with my family. Galas. Work events. You stood beside me while people asked why I wasn't dating anyone.”
Miu's eyes burned. “I know.”
“And I let it happen. I knew…” Lena hiccupped. “I knew how much it hurt you.”
Miu went still. “Then why?”
“Because I kept telling myself I'd fix it later.” Lena laughed bitterly through her tears. “After the next deal. After the next family dinner. When Dad was in a better mood. When the company was more stable.”
She shook her head. “There was always an excuse I made to not speak my truth. To not take the easy road and hide like a coward.”
“And then the engagement happened. And I thought I could deal with that, put it off like everything else, find a way to worm out of it instead of just standing up and saying no to him.”

FINAL 9️⃣ Miu's eyes immediately filled and Lena looked nervous.
For two years, Miu had wanted those words.
Not whispered in an apartment.
Not hidden behind a locked door.
Not spoken only when nobody else could hear.
She wanted to be Lena's choice in the daylight.
Miu moved closer again. This time, she rested her head against Lena's shoulder.
Lena released a shaky breath and gently rested her cheek against Miu's hair.
“I'm not ready for dinner with your family.” Miu murmured.
“That’s fair.” Lena nodded.
“Definitely not your father.”
“Never again if you don’t want.”
“Maybe lunch with your mum.”
Lena smiled. “I think she'd take that.”
Miu closed her eyes, their hands remained intertwined in her lap. After a few moments, Lena whispered. “But just coffee with me first.”
Miu smiled against her shoulder. “Coffee first.”
“And then?”
Miu lifted her head. Lena looked hopeful. Miu leaned close enough that Lena instinctively held her breath. She nudged her nose gently against hers one last time. “Ask me after coffee.”
Lena's smile slowly spread. “Deal.”
Miu settled against her again.
Nothing was fixed.
She hadn't forgiven Lena.
She wasn't ready to kiss her, let alone call her girlfriend again.
But she was holding her hand.
She was sitting beside her instead of walking away.
And for the first time since the gala, Miu didn't feel like their story had ended. It simply needed to start again.

PART 4️⃣ “You let me walk into that room.” Miu whispered. “You let me stand beside your mother.”
Lena closed her eyes. “I know.”
“She was smiling at me.” Miu's voice began shaking. “Everyone was smiling at me like I was your best friend while your father announced the woman I loved was going to marry someone else.”
“I'm sorry.”
“I felt humiliated.” Lena's face broke and Miu looked away because watching that almost made her stop. “I went home and felt so stupid.”
“You weren't.”
“Oh I was.” Miu laughed.
“No.” Lena frowned.
“I believed you.” Miu wiped at her face angrily. “For two years, every time you said it wouldn't always be like this, I believed you. Thinking eventually you’d choose me.”
Lena was openly sobbing now. “I should have.”
“I thought one day I'd walk into a room with you and you wouldn't introduce me as your friend.” Miu laughed bitterly. “I thought your family would eventually know I was the person you thought she was building a life with you.”
Lena covered her mouth. “I am so sorry.”
“I kept waiting.”
“I know.”
“Then I found out in front of everyone that while I'd been waiting for you to stop hiding me, you were planning to marry somebody else.”
“I wasn't planning to marry him.” Miu looked at her sharply and Lena immediately shook her head.
“Sorry. That sounds like an crap. I know it doesn't matter what I planned.” Lena wiped her face. “The ring was on my finger. I agreed to it and didn’t speak to you. I know now that’s what matters. I know I could have come to you the second my dad suggested it. I’m sorry.”
Miu stared at her and despite her efforts something inside her softened. Not because the pain disappeared. Because for once Lena wasn't trying to explain it away, she was owning it.

PART 1️⃣ Friday brought lunch. From the tiny restaurant near Miu's old office. Lena used to make fun of Miu for because she always ordered the same thing and then changed half the ingredients.
The order was perfect.
No onions.
Extra chilli.
Sauce on the side.
Another note.
You always said they make it wrong unless you order it yourself. I checked twice.
I'm sorry for every time I made you feel like you weren't important enough to remember. You were. You are. I was just too afraid to show it when it mattered.
I love you.
Lena x
That one made Miu cry. She sat at the kitchen counter with tears running down her cheeks while eating the food Lena had remembered perfectly.
The perfume arrived next.
Miu had mentioned months ago that she was nearly out and she had completely forgotten saying it.
Lena hadn't.
Then, a few days later, Bam arrived with an envelope. “Your girlfriend sent me a present.”
Miu gave her a look. “She's not...”
“I know…your emotionally devastated kinda former girlfriend.”
“Better.” Miu grinned slightly.
Bam dropped onto the sofa and handed her the envelope. Inside were two festival tickets.
Miu had talked about this festival for months. Lena had promised they'd go together. Obviously that had been before the gala.
Before everything.
There was another note addressed to Miu.
You were excited about this long before I ruined everything. I know you probably don't want to go with me anymore, so these are for you and Bam.
I hope you go. I hope you dance too much, drink something overpriced and complain about your feet hurting on the way home.
You don't owe me anything for these. I just don't want what I did to take another good thing away from you.
I miss you.
I love you.
I'm sorry.
Lena x
Miu finished reading, a lump forming in her throat. Bam was watching her. “Don’t say anything.” Miu sniffed.
“I wasn't going to.”
“You were.”
“I really wasn't.”
That made Miu look at her. Bam's expression was unusually serious. “But she is trying.”
Miu looked back at the note. “I know.”
“But that doesn't mean you have to forgive her.”
“I know.”
“But she's trying.”
Miu folded the note carefully and put it with the others.

PART 2️⃣ A week later, Miu walked into a coffee shop after work. It wasn't theirs and that was why she went there. The place where they'd met was still too painful.
This one was smaller, quieter, hidden between two office buildings. Miu had started going there after the breakup because she could sit for an hour without anyone she knew walking in.
Usually.
Miu had barely made it through the door when she saw her.
Lena sat near the far window with a laptop open in front of her and a coffee untouched beside it.
She hadn't seen Miu and Miu's first instinct was to leave. She could turn around, walk out and Lena would never know…but she couldn’t.
Miu’s hand tightened around the strap of her bag as she looked at her properly and something inside her hurt.
Lena had lost weight. Not dramatically, but enough for Miu to notice. Her face was slimmer. There were dark circles beneath her eyes. Her hair was pulled back carelessly instead of styled the way it usually was for work and was wearing an old grey jumper that she never wore outside the house.
Lena looked tired…really tired.
Miu hated that her first instinct was still to go to her.
To ask if she'd eaten enough today.
To tell her she looked exhausted.
To take care of her.
Miu stood there for too long staring at her that it was inevitable what would happen next.
Lena eventually looked up and their eyes met.
Lena froze, her expression changed completely.
Shock.
Hope.
Fear.
Lena pushed her chair back and started to stand, then stopped herself, hovering awkwardly for a moment before standing straight but not taking a step towards Miu.
Lena swallowed. “Hi.”
Miu hadn't heard her voice in weeks and her chest tightened. “Hi.”
Silence stretched between them.
Lena glanced towards the door. “I can go.” Miu just stared at her. “I promise didn't know you came here.” She said, wringing her hands together like she did when she was nervous.
That did it. Miu shook her head. “No. It’s okay. Can we talk?”
Lena’s eyes widened. “Yeah.”
Miu looked around. “Not here.”
Lena closed the laptop immediately. “Okay.”

PART 5️⃣ Miu breathed out slowly. “Are you losing the company?”
Lena gave a tiny laugh. “Who knows.”
“I'm serious.”
Lena looked down. “Maybe.”
Miu's stomach dropped. “What does maybe mean?”
“Dad hasn't officially removed me but we're barely speaking. A few board members think I damaged the company by ending the engagement. The merger isn't completely dead, but it's... complicated.”
“What if your dad removes you?”
“Then he removes me.” Lena shrugs.
“You've spent your entire life working for that company.”
“Yeah.”
“That matters to you.”
“It does.” Lena nods. “I don't want to lose my family. I don't want to lose my career. I'm not going to pretend those things suddenly mean nothing.” She continued. “But if keeping them means letting my father choose who I marry and who I'm allowed to love, then I don't want any of it.”
“Lena…” Miu’s eyes filled again.
Lena looked directly at her. “You are my priority now and I know saying that doesn't mean anything after two years of showing you otherwise but I mean every word I say.”
Miu wiped another tear away. “I don't know if I trust you.”
Lena's face crumpled, but she nodded. “I know.”
“I’m sad that you were even put in that position in the first place. No one should be put in the position that you were. But that doesn’t excuse what you did to me, Lena. What happens if your dad changes his mind?” Lena stays quiet. “What happens if he offers everything back and all you have to do is go back to being the daughter he wants?”
“I say no.” Lena tells her firmly.
“You say that now.”
“I say no forever. Let me prove it.”
“I don’t know if…”
Lena puts her hand out. “I don't need you to forgive me today.” She cuts in gently. “I don't need you to be my girlfriend today. I don't even know if I deserve another chance.”
“Lena...”
“But if there's even a tiny part of you that still wants this.” Her voice brakes again. “Let me do the work. No more hiding. No more separate arrivals. No more pretending you're just my friend when you're the person I love most in the world.”
Miu's tears spilled again.
