I have the EXACT same feelings about Scream. Love the 1st one and I just… don’t get what people love about the sequels. Like, they’re not awful (save for the last one), but the sheer amount of glaze that they get is baffling.

I know why they did it (money) but in terms of the themes of focusing on movies and such that Scream did, it made no sense making a 4th one and beyond

I love citizen toxie and it may be the best, but I also loved the remake. I felt it captured the spirit of the originals pretty well.
