@dw.science: NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a next-generation observatory that should help dramatically expand our understanding of the universe. Equipped with a wide-field infrared camera and an instrument called a coronagraph, Roman will survey the sky far faster than previous space telescopes. The two instruments will allow scientists to study billions of galaxies and also significantly extend the catalogue of known exoplanets. Named after the “Mother of Hubble,” the telescope builds on Nancy Grace Roman’s vision of astronomy based on telescopes in space. Slated for launch at the end of August 2026, it will have a unique ability to map vast cosmic structures.
