@scott.austin.martin: You may be listening better now. You may be less defensive. You may be showing up in ways you did not before. That matters. But changed behavior is not the same thing as repair. Your partner may still be carrying years of unresolved experiences that have become a story in their nervous system: “I am alone here.” “I do not matter.” “I cannot trust you.” That is why “I already apologized for that” rarely changes much on its own. Repair is not saying the right words about the past. It is creating a different experience in the present. Can you identify the specific injury? Understand their experience without correcting it? Acknowledge the impact? Take responsibility for what is yours? Stay with it long enough for something new to happen? Stopping the behavior prevents new damage. Repair helps change what the old damage still means between you. #relationships #menscoach #nervoussystem #relationshiptips #communicationtips
He always justifies his perspective. I just want to feel heard & validated.

What are your thoughts on lies they told years ago? I feel like I don’t know what’s truth & what was made up.

Don’t forget to tell these gentlemen that once contempt is showing up on your wife’s face regularly, the show is over. Sometimes it’s just too broken to save. I think if your partner doesn’t like you, then you should leave them…. Regardless of gender

Yes, my husband just keeps moving forward. If I don’t believe that he understands why his behavior hurt me to begin with, I cannot trust him to discontinue the hurtful behavior. I bring up the past to show that the pattern is still continuing, but if it’s not the exact same thing he’s repeating he doesn’t understand why they’re related. For example, “hey it hurts when you don’t celebrate me” told to him on Mother’s Day doesn’t get repaired on the following celebrations because they aren’t the same.

Yes but what if the person wanting the repair refuses to accept the repair attempts saying they’re never detailed enough

And he pretends like he never said the most incredibly hurtful things he said through the years when he knows fully that he did say them. I just need him to repair so we can move past it.

now he is focused on my cptsd responses and how I hurt him with my responses instead of why I'm having a trauma response

@123456:This is exactly what's going on rn...I ask for empathy and accountability and somehow it becomes about him and his feelings. He even goes into details about why I shouldn't feel the way I'm feeling. After 3 yrs of infedilty with not only a main Ap who he was in a long term affair with bc she's in a relationship and never stopped seeing her since him and started our relationship but with other multiple AP s

This is really good advice for the dismissive in regard to past events. It would totally help repair if it was acknowledged and there was some empathy for the pain it caused.
