@checkyesjesshistory: August 26th 1596 Frederick V of the Palatinate is born Son to Frederick IV and Countess Louise Juliana of Nassau. When Frederick V was about 17 he would marry Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of King James VI & I of Scotland and England and Anne of Denmark. Frederick and Elizabeth would become King and Queen of Bohemia, after one year Frederick was forced to abdicate after being defeated in battle. Frederick and Elizabeth would become known as the “Winter King and Queen” as their reign only lasted one winter from 1619-1620. Frederick had contributed to the Thirty Years’ War by accepting the crown of Bohemia. Frederick was also Elector Palatine from 1610 until 1623. Frederick, his wife, and children would be exiled by 1623 forcing the family to flee to the Dutch Republic. Frederick and Elizabeth would live mainly at “The Hague”. Elizabeth gave birth to 8 of their children while in exile, the couple had 13 children together with 6 of them surviving into adulthood. While traveling to Amsterdam in 1629 Frederick’s boat capsized, Frederick survived but his eldest son, 15 year old Frederick Henry of the Palatinate did not survive. Frederick lived the rest of his life in exile trying to regain his lands and titles but was unsuccessful. Frederick even trying to retake his lands by military and was again unsuccessful. Frederick V of the Palatinate died a few years later in 1632 at the age of 36. Through Frederick and Elizabeth’s daughter, Sophia, their ancestral line would continue on the British throne through Sophia’s son King George I of Great Britain who was the first British monarch from the House of Hanover. #frederick #royalhistory #onthisdayinhistory #historytok #historytiktok
