magic the gathering is the frisbee of nerd/gamer culture. if you drop in the 90s or '80s I believe this holds true. because at some point you acquired a frisbee that hung out in your garage or your sunroom or sat in the back of your car and it was just always there pick up toss around with friends in the backyard at the beach at the park in the same way we all at one point or another bought a pre-con magic deck or cobbled together enough cards from somebody's bulk to have the deck that you might not usually use and you probably don't even play magic all that much but you've got one in case someone's interested or you pull it out to throw in your backpack when you go to a con or when you go camping in case it's a rainy day.

I'd add, you are hoping to do the same thing (usually) every time you play magic or so stand up; like you wanna hit the same beats... But with D&D you know the formula, and you're kinda hoping to do something different every time.

No metaphor is perfect but the fact that stand up is regarded as much higher in terms of mainstream success vs improv I’d say they’re flipped. D&D has created much more mainstream success vs high end Magic players 😂
