Next to one of the outer walls under the tower, you’ll spot what looks like an apple carved into the flag on the ground - it’s apparently a tribute to a builder who fell and died while building the tower as he was eating an apple

Loved this, thanks very much! Also a huge theatrical hub during the Elizabethan years. Home to the only globe style Shakespearean theatre outside London and birth place of noted actor John Kemble (hence Kemble street)
