Twelve Britons are among 384 travellers missing after devastating floods and mudslides pummelled buildings, and swept away bridges, houses, and roads along the Nepal-Tibet border. The death toll currently stands at 95. Nepal’s tourist board said following the flash flood in the Bhote Koshi River at around 8.30am local time on Wednesday, authorities are working to “verify the whereabouts and safety status of tourists and travellers who were in or travelling through the affected areas”. A preliminary check has identified 384 travellers including 291 foreign nationals who were reported missing from the affected areas. They included 12 UK citizens from one tour company, with the nationalities of many others yet to be confirmed. Terrifying footage circulating online shows a huge wave of water crashing through a town, sweeping away everything in its path in the mountainous Rasuwa region of Nepal. In Tibet, one clip showed the Chinese-owned Gyirong Port land crossing being engulfed by the flood as dozens of people flee in terror. Search operations are currently under way on both sides of the border between Tibet and Nepal. The Nepal Army said 14 helicopters and disaster response teams have been deployed for rescue and relief. Climate experts at the Kathmandu-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development say an avalanche from a glacier likely caused Wednesday's flash flood. #5news #nepal #floods
