After Michael Jackson, this may be one of the biggest losses of a truly global music icon. Not necessarily for me personally, or for everyone who has their own favorite artist, but in terms of worldwide recognition, cultural impact and generations touched, Dolly was one of the very few remaining artists on that level. There really aren’t many of them left. Madonna, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and Céline Dion may be the last few solo artists whose passing will have a similar impact around the world. And of course, this is with all due respect to Tina Turner, Whitney Houston and Prince, who are right up there among the greatest we’ve lost. This isn’t about my personal taste in music, but about their global impact and iconic status.
