hailie :
I remember it was 2 am, several hours after birth. I woke up from one of those half-asleep half-awake naps, and my bits felt like they were going to fall off. Immediately started bawling.. baby is asleep, man is asleep, everything is dark and quiet except I’m falling apart. Everything just became so overwhelming, dark, scary, and I felt so alone and in pain. Then, the door creaked open and light shined in. The night nurse assigned to me came in and tried to introduced herself, but immediately noticed me bawling alone in the dark. She handled it. No judgement, no asking me deeper questions - just a gentle voice with reassurances and the help I needed. Delivered pain meds, padsicle, talked to me for a while.. even brought me a sweet treat. I hope these women in healthcare realize how valuable and cherished they are, even just the memory of her comforted me in the dark moments at home. So thankful.
