@scottaltiparmak: Cybersecurity has an “entry-level” problem. A lot of roles labeled entry-level are really asking for someone who already understands networking, operating systems, cloud, identity, scripting, and security fundamentals. That doesn’t mean you need 4 years of cybersecurity experience before applying. It means cybersecurity is often not your first-ever technical job. Help desk, IT support, sysadmin, networking, cloud, software development, internships, CTFs, and hands-on labs can all build the foundation employers are actually looking for. And yes, some job descriptions are completely delusional. Apply anyway. #infosec #cybersecurity

Cybersecurity isn’t entry level , people are paying to protect millions if not billions of their money. Get into IT and pivot from there.

It took me 7 years of applying to cyber jobs and continuing to apply to those jobs while i accepted an IT help desk job and had to eventually work for a company that wanted to have their own cyber security department and transitioned from help desk to security analyst.

to your caption - entry level cyber isnt entry level tech. yes entry level cyber is asking for knowledge in tech bc thats what it takes to even comprehend cyber in the first place, a cyber job will train you on tools and processes but they arent going to teach you what an IP address is. 😭😭😭

Entry level doesn’t mean you don’t need experience. How do you expect to just jump in straight after security+? honestly? Get in somewhere and learn what you’re doing

Absolutely agree. Cybersecurity is often a progression rather than a first technical role. Building strong IT fundamentals and gaining hands-on experience can make a huge difference—and sometimes the best approach is to apply even when you don’t meet every requirement.

Those posts are AI generated. What recruiters do not understand is that IAM, data security, network security, cloud security etc are solutions on their own and it takes time to master all of them. Now CISSP and others require years of experience. So how can a job description of 5-8+ years be entry or even mid level. The solutions mentioned above are usually separated into different teams. Now since the AI craze those teams have been replaced by agents and hiring managers are expected a team of 5 to manage 4-5 different portals and alerts, and also verify the actions of those agents. This is the reason why there are so many breaches. Organisations are not striking a balance
