@pinatravels: It will always baffle me how common these comments are on posts about traveling with severe food allergies. And tbh, these comments are part of why I don't post that often about it. I just rather not see these comments because they worsen my anxiety. Living with this type of severe allergy often means having to put your full trust in other people, and it's hard to do that when you see this discourse online. It's a painful reminder of just how much people misunderstand severe food allergies. But at the same time, I know that I should post about it, because I think that posting does help spread awareness. Travel with severe food allergies can be challenging and sometimes scary. It takes a lot of preparation, planning, and diligence. But I still do it, because travel brings me so much joy, and the experiences I've had around the world are priceless. Over the years I've developed a routine for keeping myself safe. I focus on what I can control, and I focus on being grateful for the experiences I'm able to have, even if they don't include food. I know that many severely allergic people are too anxious to travel. And it's okay to feel that anxiety. It's our universal experience, and I see you. But don't ever let other people tell you that being allergic means you have to stay home. If travel is something you're dreaming of experiencing, know that it absolutely can be done 🤍

Pina Travels :
Want to call out that this online treatment of allergic people isn't confined to just us - I've seen these kinds of comments targeting other people who need accommodations and/or support (ex. folks who use wheelchairs) when they travel. It's never okay. And it's often ableist. Please be kind 🤍
