@itsnickcooper: Sometimes I wonder if we misunderstand what finding “the right person” actually means. We imagine meeting someone who fills the empty spaces. Someone who makes us feel whole. Someone who removes the loneliness, the fear, the uncertainty. But maybe that’s exactly where we get lost. Because if I need you to complete me… then part of what I’m calling love is actually need. If I choose you because I’m afraid to be alone… part of it is fear. If I stay because you’re familiar, convenient, or comfortable… part of it is attachment. And maybe real love begins somewhere much quieter. When two people can stand on their own… and still look at each other and say: I choose you. Not because I need you to become whole. Not because I’m scared of life without you. But because somehow, out of billions of people, sharing this strange little existence with you feels right. Maybe that’s why learning to love yourself matters so much. Because once you know how to care for yourself, respect yourself, forgive yourself, protect yourself… you begin to understand what it actually means to offer those things to another person. And maybe loving someone deeply is exactly that: caring about their life almost as tenderly as you care about your own. Their happiness matters. Their pain matters. Their dreams matter. You’re not asking them to carry your life. You’re saying: “I have mine. You have yours. Let’s carry them together.” Maybe the person we ultimately fall in love with isn’t someone who completes us. Maybe they’re someone in whom we recognize the same kind of love we finally learned to create inside ourselves. And perhaps that’s why the right connection feels so different.
