@amandalynndaly: 5-week-old newborn sleep without nursing to sleep or relying on a pacifier 👏 At this age, I’m NOT trying to “sleep train” her. I’m just giving her little opportunities to practice falling asleep with less help while still responding when she needs me. My strategy is to chain the soothing steps together and slowly remove them: Swaddled → shushing → butt pats → movement → shift her horizontally → keep the same shushing + pats → once asleep, practice the crib/bassinet transfer. If the transfer wakes her, I try the same soothing again first. I keep the pacifier nearby as my backup instead of immediately reaching for it. Today she slept 35 minutes independently after the transfer — a HUGE win for 5 weeks old. As she gets more practice falling asleep and staying asleep in her bed, I expect those stretches to gradually get longer. The goal right now isn’t independent sleep. It’s practice without pressure and helping her learn that the same calming cues can follow her all the way from my arms to her sleep space. #newbornsleep #babysleeptips #5weekold #newbornroutine #bassinettransfer

You crib mattress is installed upside down, it’s too high. Flip the brackets and the mattress will be just a tad lower, but in a safer spot.

Why are humans so deadset on independence from a young age? Mammals keep their young on them. Nursing to sleep, snuggling to sleep, co-sleeping, it’s all ok.

The worst is when you put them down successfully then hear an explosion in their diaper …

Everyone saying dark room and white noise is insane cause I get it but that’s so inconvenient later on my nephew can fall asleep anywhere he loves a mall nap in his stroller he fell asleep in the middle of the great wolf lodge water park if you’ve been there you know it’s loud it was so nice to be able to still get everything done and him get all the sleep he needed

My favorite hack when laying a baby down is to put them down and letting their butt touch the mattress first, then head, then gently laying their feet down. The feet hitting the mattress always wakes my baby for some reason

If they only sleep for 10 minutes or so, do you start a wake window once they’re up? Or do you try and get them to sleep again? New mom trying to figure this all out🤣🩷

This is what helped us the most! The only thing I did differently (and can’t tell if you did or not) is stop rocking for a minute before I put her down
