Don’t get me wrong — Insight can be such an important part of healing. Understanding the ‘why’ can help us make sense of our experiences and increase our self awareness. Many of us get stuck there (myself included), and it becomes a never-ending hunt for what’s ‘wrong with us’. Although ultimately protective, it ends up being the top down layer that keeps us in our heads on the treadmill of shame. Getting stuck on insight conveniently keeps us disconnected from our bodies, especially if it’s historically been safer to have that disconnect. We can understand the why in perfect detail, but make the same choices and repeat patterns because we don’t have the permission from our bodies to do something unfamiliar. Even though on paper we understand that it’s the more aligned thing for us to choose. Insight can feel so good and efficient compared to the required slowing down of creating sustainable change. Which ultimately comes from the bottom up through things like corrective emotional experiences (in therapy and IRL), repetition, experimenting, and truly L I V I N G. #therapytok #therapistsoftiktok #insight #personalgrowthjourney
