my mom had a miscarriage a week before my dad's sister got married (my mom's sister in law). my paternal grandma refused to let my mom touch anything on stage or the blessing area at the front because she thought she was bad luck and it broke her heart even more. this entire culture of looking at women as bad luck for unfortunate events that occured in their lives, which could happen to anyone, is so disgusting.

In Punjabi culture we don’t wear our moms bangles / wedding clothes because she takes her dignity / respect with her, so wearing it is like wearing her respect as a married woman instead of your own. I don’t know about Indian culture though.
