The media is starting to normalize Lindsey Clancy’s actions by talking about postpartum mental illness as though what happened is simply a symptom of postpartum that we should expect or accept. If that were truly the case, why are there not far more mothers doing this? Millions of mothers become mothers every day. They are exhausted, overwhelmed, sleep deprived, stressed, and facing enormous pressure, yet they love their children and work incredibly hard to care for and protect them. I do not believe harming or killing your children should be portrayed as a normal symptom of postpartum. Calling it postpartum does not automatically explain or excuse an act this horrific. Something went terribly wrong with Lindsey Clancy, and I believe we need to be very careful about turning an individual case into a narrative that makes mothers who experience postpartum difficulties sound as though they are potential dangers to their own children. Most mothers struggle and still protect their babies. That distinction matters.

Over functioning??? Are we not meant to function? Being a mom requires us to function. We literally have the brain chemistry directly meant to serve the household in the way of taking care of kids and keeping everything in the house together. Isn’t getting up and forcing yourself to function also a recommendation from Doctors to help with depression because keeping in bed makes it worse?
