@talk.baby.to.me: Their pointing is communication!! I don’t want you to ignore it, I want you to build language on top of it 🗣️ If your toddler points to their cup, instead of handing it over right away, model “cup!” or “Want your cup?” You don’t need to withhold it until they repeat you or pressure them to “use their words.” Simply pair their gesture with a clear, simple word in that moment. Over time, they begin connecting the word with the thing they are trying to request. ##toddlerspeech##speechdevelopment##speechtherapy##toddlerlanguage##pediatricslp
What about when they aren’t pointing just crying for something-usually his cup? When he plays with his big blocks we make him attempt to say up before we lift him up to stack the taller blocks

My daughter leaves her cup all over the living room. We play a game called "where's wawa" where I pretend I don't see it and she will find it, bring it to me then she'll sit and drink from it. We do it with her toys too!

I shared to my son’s pediatrician that at 18 months, he was only saying like 5 words and she said it wasn’t a concern until he was 2 years old. I feel like that’s way too late. He’s 20 months old and nothing has changed other than him babbling super fast and saying the one word he might know.

My 14 month old will not say words. She babbles all day long. She can say words, just a few. But only on her own terms ☹️I’m trying so hard to get her to talk more and she just won’t. She is incredibly smart, she knows lots of signs, can get specific things you ask for. But I’m so worried about her speech

My 15 month old has about 5 words-mama Dada papa nana and she says quack quack. They have been the same for about 2 months with no other words added. She calls multiple things papa and Dada and points a little bit. She does understand when I tell her to bring something or go somewhere and nods. How do I teach her new words? Or is it just on her own time?

Any advice for a 20 month old who doesn’t say mama yet? Getting him evaluated for a speech delay. He says “I want” “shoes” “dada” “ball” but for mama he says “‘mmm” and can’t connect the “a”. I’ve tried modeling, breaking it down, using pictures to encourage him, but no mama yet

So my 18 month old signs everything… I’ve always narrated everything with signs, he puts signs together too… like when he wants his water he signs water please, what do I do? Technically he is asking 😭

We’ve taught our almost 14 mo old how to sign “more” and “please”. She signs it for almost everything she wants. If she doesn’t, I hold onto whatever it is that she wants and just look at her. She then signs “please”, sometimes “please” then “more” right after. She says zero words though and I’m starting to get worried.
