Born on April 19, 1946, in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England, Curry became one of entertainment’s most distinctive performers. His portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show helped transform the film into an enduring cult phenomenon. 💋 He was equally memorable as Pennywise in Stephen King’s It, Wadsworth in Clue, Rooster Hannigan in Annie and Darkness in Legend. He also played suspicious Plaza Hotel concierge Mr. Hector in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. 🎈 Disney fans will always remember his wonderfully theatrical performance as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island. Curry often named it among his favorite roles. He had always wanted to play the famous pirate and described Kermit, Miss Piggy and the other Muppets as “legends.” 🏴‍☠️ His other Disney roles included Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers and Forte in Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. He also voiced Taurus Bulba in Darkwing Duck, Lord Dragaunus in Mighty Ducks and S.I.R. in Walt Disney World’s ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. 🏰 Curry’s career earned him a Daytime Emmy Award, three Tony Award nominations and two Laurence Olivier Award nominations. After suffering a major stroke in 2012, Curry faced lasting mobility challenges but continued working and meeting fans. He returned to theaters in the 2024 horror film Stream, his first feature-film role in 14 years. In November 2025, he reunited with Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn and Nell Campbell at New York City’s Town Hall during The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s 50th Anniversary Spectacular Tour.
