One of my favourite theories is that Wybie’s grandmother knew that the Beldam would be trying to take another child soon so to stop it from being Wybie she let the Jones’ move in with a child. Because Wybie says in the movie that she never rents it to people with kids. She did it to save her own grandson

my big theory is the beldam specifically has gone after children after tragedies/extreme hardship because the parents are already stressed out and ignoring their kids, making them more susceptible to her tricks. in 1921, there was a hurricane like superstorm in oregon that caused people (probably the ghost child) to lose their home. in 1936 it was the middle of the great depression, and 1960 was during segregation and racial tensions. coralines i believe is either 9/11 or the 2008 stock market crash, depending on if the story takes place when the book was written or when the movie was made.

The wybie theory makes no sense?? Wybie was the one who gave coraline the doll, the doll was at his grandma's house, and she watches coraline (or like people in general) through the doll. No hate just saying

i rewatched coraline sm that i have heard of all of these. anyway. did you notice after coraline dropped a rock in the well there was a splash sound after a while. but when she dropped the key there there was no sound

The only theory I will not listen to is the cat is the beldams son. The cat is a cat. Black cats are thought to have magical properties in pagan folklore. That’s why witches have black cats. Coraline is based on folklore. The cat can move between worlds because he’s a black cat and black cats are magic. Period.

It’s not a mother bird and a baby bird. It’s a cuckoo. Cuckoos lay their eggs in other smaller species nest and pretend to be one of them. Meanwhile they get rid of all the other babies while being the only one fed. Just the wall predicts the whole plot

I’m reading coraline to my kids and besides dialogue and certain “scenes” being spot on, it’s so different in other ways. The part where the other father chases after coraline is horrifying.

theory: the entire world is the bedlam not her domain and the other mother is just the bedlam giving itself a body because in the book when coraline goes through the portal it's described as being like a throat
