it's the same with Nascar. Everytime NASCAR partnered with ABC/ESPN they got massive boobs in popularity. But the darkest days were non-ABC/EPSN years with the post 2014 separation being their darkest days.

Every time I have to watch an ESPN broadcast of my team it's an actual disaster. Seems like they intentionally love getting everything from players names to the team name wrong every chance they get.

always wondered how I grew up seeing every sport in the world on sports bar TV screens but could not remember ever seeing hockey and now this makes so much sense

ESPN sucks ass. Treated NHL like crap. If they weren’t covering the sport on SC, that means their audience didn’t care. They went somewhere that cared and they (NHL) have grown much more without ESPN in last 20years.

ESPN was biased towards their partners? Wow, it sure is great they got over this problem when they became the primary partner of both the SEC and the College Football Playoffs. One might question the integrity of the sport otherwise!

The NHL still hasn’t recovered from the lockout. MLB should take notice

I also think it’s odd that the NHL advertises on the games. Their existing audience is already there. Why aren’t they advertising on other channels/programs to potentially gain more viewers?

Hi Neil. I love learning from you. Can you tell me where in the Chicago land I can stream Blackhawks games this season?

The NHL has made a MAJOR mistake losing free broadcasting on CBC. There are going to be so many people who are new to hockey who are never going to watch again.

I feel like the cap wasn’t super necessary. The major markets in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Chicago, all won a combined mere three (3) Stanley Cups from 1980-2004. Small markets like Pittsburgh and New Jersey were star studded and won multiple Cups. A soft cap like the NBA/NFL would have been better.

Was it not the case that ESPN had higher ratings for the World Series of poker than they did with NHL games and decided not to renew the tv contract

ESPN had an out clause in the contract with the NHL and the exercised that option almost the day the NHL announced the lockout, I don’t blame ESPN for doing so, it’s going to drop MLB if they get locked out

I think you can't talk about this without talking about the lockout like they in some ways had to
