I am different from most Americans in that I have traveled extensively thru Canada. Visited too many small towns to ever remember them all. First I’d say that almost all the folks I met up there were genuinely good people. Secondly I was surprised at the cost of goods in general but deeply shocked at the cost of products made in America. More troubling was the comments I often heard made about American products. I heard comments about dairy products like don’t but that American cheese. That stuff is full of antibiotics and steroids.. point is there was obviously a lot of untrue propaganda and obviously a whole lot of import taxes to discourage the purchasing of American products. That kind of propaganda doesn’t happen here in the US! Most folks were surprised and shocked when I told them that they were being lied to and also told them the cost of those products in the US. I was especially surprised by how hateful a lot of the younger Canadians were to me. I experienced several times while driving in my vehicle with Tennesse tags cars with teenagers pulling alongside of me flipping me off and shouting Fuck the USA! Something you would never experience in America to an international visitor. I will add I never experienced any of this from older Canadians. Only the youth! How and why have they become so radicalized?

Honestly, I think it has something to do with Canada being so closely aligned to China that’s what I think part of the agreement was that they had to stop that Mark Carney is balls deep in China

Although, I agree with you, I personally would love to see the deal however, as a person who has sat through deals myself, both governments should not release the deal. first, there could be language in the deal that prohibits them from releasing it. Second, once made public, your inviting every politian, corporation, union, etc...into the deal. Everyone is going to have an opinion and historically deals move further from the goal. So even though I would personally would love to read it, this would put a larger axe between the two countries so I dont think they will or should release it.

no one including the American administration will release the text. New York Times podcast The Daily had a great piece on this. If you listen to US trade rep Grear, his version of events is much like the Canadian Governments version. they just have a different perspective. The "sovereignty and cultural" issues were not the major hurdle, more smoke and mirrors than an actual deal breaker. It was the tariff levels, the quotas being imposed on Canada (what the US hates about Canadian Dairy by the way) and the fact that medium and heavy duty trucks were not included in the auto tariff reductions. All of these issues made the deal unacceptable to Canada because it would have cut off the US market to Canadian manufacturing long term, all while Canada had to eliminate all tariffs on the US. It wouldn't have mattered if the US put in a demand that Canadians all had to paint their face red, the fundamental deal was bad for Canada and it was right to reject it. And news flash, Canada and the US have a trade deal. It's called USMCA, Trump negotiated and signed it in 2019 calling it the greatest trade deal of his time. Trump broke his own trade deal, period. He did that because he now believes that Canada shouldn't have a manufacturing industry and all those factories and companies should move to the US. That's not speculation, his administration has stated it clearly. Obviously Canada will never agree to that and up until now the US has refused to make a carve out for Canada to a level that can be workable. PS - Please stop putting the refusal to release the documents all on Canada's government, the US government is just as capable, why no demand for them to do it?

Hey Jules, you just said... "Go to the negotiation table, that is your job." I agree, literally cannot agree more. We vote in the senate and the house of representatives, and when they do not like the president, they just go home and shut the government down. That pisses me off. I want them in Washington doing their damn job. Sometimes, you win, sometimes you don't. The main reason the last three presidents are running the country on presidential directives is because the legislative branch has been useless for almost 20 years. They have given the presidents too much power.

It’s funny cause the liberals and MPs for the House of Commons are still on holiday till September 21 when parliament resumes, so if it was a big deal for Canada they would go back to work and get a deal done, but like lazy liberals nope they want insane holidays.
