Working food service, there was this one guy that would only talk shit about his girlfriend, I would generally just avoid him. One day he was going on and on and i just looked him dead in the face and said “i’ve never heard you say a good thing about her. Why be with somebody if you hate them?” His face dropped and looked genuinely sad like he had never been called out for it in his life. More people need to say shit or it will always seem “normal.”

As a therapist, I agree. I hear it from male clients all the time. They’re just with the women they are with because they feel bad for her, wasted too much of their time, convenience, or they just like the benefits.
