@moreperfectunion: Yesterday Asheville City Council voted to terminate its contract with Flock Safety automated license plate readers (ALPRs) and request that Flock remove its cameras from the city. Dozens of residents spoke to city council members about the issue, warning them against any and all mass surveillance of residents. Local organizer and union leader Jen Hampton told reporters “They want us to celebrate canceling Flock while we quietly wade through a massive, federally funded Axon surveillance dragnet. Let’s call that what it is — the same, exact police state, just with a different corporate logo.”
