@brandonlikesinvesting: Is that crazy or actually good?! I’m trying to use Finn so I can stay out of credit card debt myself #finn #PersonalFinance #budget
Might as well file bankruptcy and still keep the 401k.

You’re never really making money when you’re carting debt that you’re paying interest on, are you? I’d rather pay off my debt and save from there…

if he was smart, he took a loan against his 401k, that way he gets all his money tax free and pays himself back with interest. it's the play for sure with that much interest bearing debt. instead of paying the bank, he's paying himself.

If the credit card was at 20+ APR while the 401k was making 8% APR it’s an easy choice imo

I get it…desperate times call for desperate measures. I mean just last week I cut my shampoo bottle open so I don’t have to waste any. Practically the same thing.

Awful idea. 401k is for compounding growth. Withdrawals reset that. You miss out on hundereds of thousands over 20-30years

tbh idk why ppl don’t withdraw their 401k to invest in the market. Imagine buying nvidia or something.

If the interest of the debt is higher than the interest of the investment than it makes sense to pay the debt off first right? Not entirely sure but that’s my first instinct.

It’s crazy because you could just file bankruptcy to pay off the debt but still have your 401k.

Just let your cards go to collection. it hurts your credit but if your credit is maxed and your late making payments your credit score already effected. once in collecting you negotiate a lower amount due . after 7 years your credit is clean again. or get a consolidated loan from bank

$110k at 24% interest is $2,200/month strictly in interest. this was the only way to wipe that out and get their head above water. a 24% return/year is not realistic in an ordinary 401k in the long run. shitty situation, correct call.
