Decades ago... early airlines used to have bigger legroom. Now it's small in today's society, main reason is yes money and also demands. Less seat means less demands, high ticket price made it worse. I know some regional jet like Alaska Airline's Embraer 175 has bug legroom even in economy, but you'll be exchanged for misaligned window.
