@monieelyse: Today might look like a completely ordinary lunch to someone else, but for me, this was so much more than that!! This was the first time I’ve eaten out in public since starting recovery, and I honestly can’t put into words how big that feels. The ED has taken so much from me. It’s taken moments that should have been simple and made them scary. It’s made food something I think about constantly, something I’m afraid of, something that can make me want to run away instead of sit down and enjoy my life. So today, I chose to stay. I chose a place that feels safe to me. I sat at the beach. I ate my food. And I let myself be a person having lunch instead of a person fighting with an ED. I know I still have a long way to go. I know there will be days when this feels harder again. But today I got to experience a tiny piece of the life I’m fighting so hard to get back. And maybe that’s what recovery looks like sometimes. Not huge, perfect moments. Just sitting by the ocean with an @Arbys you and realizing, for a little while, that you’re actually living again.
