LAPD and UCLA Police Complete a Simulated Multi-Threat Counter-Terrorism Training Exercise at UCLA The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), in collaboration with the UCLA Police Department (UCPD), the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD), and partnering public safety agencies, successfully completed a simulated, multi-threat counter-terrorism training exercise at the UCLA campus on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The exercise took place primarily in the area of Hedrick Court and brought together law enforcement and public safety personnel to train in a realistic, controlled environment. This full‑scale exercise was designed to test and strengthen coordination, communication, decision‑making, and emergency response capabilities during a simulated critical incident. The scenario provided participating agencies an opportunity to evaluate response procedures, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce the importance of a coordinated approach during rapidly evolving emergencies. “As we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we are reminded that Los Angeles must remain prepared for any scenario,” said LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell. “Today’s exercise strengthens our readiness to respond to dynamic incidents and reinforces the partnerships that keep our city safe. We are grateful to our UCLA hosts, as well as the LAFD, UCPD, and our partnering law enforcement agencies, for their shared commitment to public safety. This kind of coordination and training is exactly how we continue getting better at protecting the people of Los Angeles.” During the exercise, participants responded to a simulated active shooter incident involving realistic scenarios, role players, emergency response vehicles, tactical personnel, and other resources intended to replicate the challenges first responders may encounter during an actual critical incident. Full‑scale exercises are an important component of emergency preparedness. They allow first responders and partner agencies to practice established procedures, evaluate communication and command structures, identify potential challenges, and improve coordination before an actual emergency occurs.
