The study you're referencing is the Stanford Prison Experiment. It was supposed to go on for 2 weeks but they ended it after 6 days.. and ONLY after the researcher's partner saw the conditions and fought with him to close it down, he was gonna keep it going despite the behaviors of the "guards".

I was at a convention with coworkers only 2 of us were black. he was behind me and split the pole I turned and looked at him and he went back around the way I did. the other coworkers asked what just happened and we both said nothing.
