Guys.... this is just supposed to be an absurdist little shitpost. I don't know if the guy is trolling or not. He might not be real. That was 9 months ago. This whole thing is ridiculous so I think we should all be ridiculous about it!

I think diskette is a better term because in French, the 5.25" was called ‘disquette souple’ and the 3.25" can be called ‘disquette rigide’. A diskette is always removable but for a hard disk you should specify: Removable hard disk or removable hard disk cartridge like the one from SyQuest or ioMega. Windows OS is the worst place to look for correct terms because Microsoft is not even coherent with itself and things often change without a naming convention throughout the different sections of the OS/app. Apple is a lot more precise and always had good developer specifications documentation for the interface. Disk brands also have different names, for exemple here a bilingual package from 3M that name it diskette/disquette. I think floppy disk is maybe a generic historical term that includes all kinds of media from the past by simplification and is a way to forget what we don’t use anymore.

as someone who went through this the first time around, I loved pulling out the floppy disk I took out of a 3.5 and the hard disk platter I took out of a HDD, and asking them which is hard and which is floppy. I kept them in my toolkit for EXACTLY this. 🤣

I was today years old when I realized one of the reasons people seem to insist on calling 3.5” floppies “hard disks” was because high density diskettes tended to have “HD” printed on them. 🤦

I’m so old this is 100% a floppy disk.💾 in the 1990’s they could fit a decent game on 1 HD 1.44MB disk and everything! Love your tik toks!

I think the confision was started, because diskettes had the HD logo on it. But it doesn't stand for hard disk, but high density.

Tbf, you could change drive description rather easily. Just because that was the default description means nothing. 😂😂
