this works as long as you accept that the thickness of the applied paint will not be constant and that there isnt a lower bound to what the thickness of the paint can be. The second that you say “ok well a layer of <1nm of paint isnt able to actually paint something” this solution unfortunately fails

Gabriel’s horn has never been paradoxical. You can easily paint an infinite surface area with a finite volume of paint. The simplest example is an infinitely long side walk one meter wide. Paint the first square meter with paint 1 mm thick. The next square meter 1/2 mm thick, then 1/4, and so on. This geometric series converges, and the total amount of paint is finite, 0.002 cubic meters, so we painted an infinite sidewalk with a finite amount of paint. Someone might complain that there’s a limit to how thin the paint can be, because it’s made of atoms of positive diameter, but the same criticism applies to Gabriel’s horn. The horn becomes arbitrarily thin, so eventually the paint atoms couldn’t coat the inside of the horn. Gabriel’s Horn is completely consistent with everything from a standard calculus 2 class. There is nothing surprising or paradoxical about it.
