I'm not even of the opinion that adults should NEVER be friends with children. when I was being sexually abused, my Internet adult friends helped me a LOT by paying for legal fees and just being there. The thing is they were careful with children being in the server! you couldn't be in NSFW channels as a minor, they would NEVER allow discussion of taboo topics that the media didn't already have and minors were told "even adult mods will have another adult present if we have to DM you". I left this server later after going through my "victim blaming anti phase" but these adults knew how to actually be safe with kids. these people don't care to actually be SAFE ADULTS because that's work. it's work to make sure children are safe in your presence.

as a kid, when I was allowed onto the internet, I was told one thing in addition to the usual "stranger danger" talk: Which is to be extremely wary of any adult who vocally expresses a desire to talk to kids online. ESPECIALLY if they want to do it privately! No matter what reason they give for it, it's always suspicious AF and a very bad idea to talk to them as a minor. I was also taught that, if I saw something that made me uncomfortable or feel unsafe, to CLICK AWAY FROM IT and tell a trusted adult offline what happened. I was certainly not taught to continue watching/reading it and then publicly post about how morally wrong I thought it was.

i used to be in one of these servers. it was a server created during that one longass AO3 blackout a few years ago, and it was meant for sharing downloaded fics. i joined bc i wasn't in the habit of downloading yet and i wanted to read some fics. it VERY quickly became an anti hellhole, but i decided to stay and lurk, and to warn authors if they were about to get brigaded. the rules changed to disallow sharing any "problematic" fics as recommendations; but what counted as problematic was publicly debated by the mods every single day. the worst thing was that once AO3 was back up they created specific channels for sharing links to "problematic fic" so that people could go and harass the author in the comments. there was absolutely 0 effort on the (mostly adult) mods' end to keep minors out of these channels, in fact they encouraged everyone to participate and "do their part". it's absolutely disgusting. they care about protecting minors soooo much, yet they actively expose them to darkfic and encourage them to go and interact with authors they deem to be predatory based on what they write

I got raided on art I made of a "proship mascot", a punk with a rainbow mohawk, and even became a meme in anti spaces for a day or two (they stole my art and used it as profile pics, things like that). most of them were kids.

I made a post talking about the correlation between sites like liveleak being removed to how it's likely what started the Wattpad T&C, and I had an anti try to argue that 'so you want everything uncensored but no verification on age?' 1. not what I was talking about at all, and 2. when I replied with the solution being stricter restrictions on phones for kids under 16, and that they should be private accounts only family follows and they replied "so we should treat phones like alcohol?" 😐 I told them to just block me and they said I was full of shit and couldn't defend my argument.

and see this is why i made a video a few days ago talking about how minors are straight up giving out their age, the fandoms the like, and the tags they read. when most of that is stuff they shouldnt even be engaging with to begin with but even if they are going to they shouldnt be sharing it and discussing it with adults. mean while ive seen young "antis" having full discussions with of age people about their pairings, tags, likes, and dislikes. that shouldnt be happening! you shouldnt be in this house let alone discussing your preference for drapes!!!! 😵💫
