When I saw the scene, I immediately thought how crazy would it be a German pilot? Imagine you just keep surviving each battle not able to get proper reinforcement after the second year of the war. Then you hear America joins in. You have to face off against 1,000 American fighters after your 300th mission and all you have is 16 aircraft in your squad.

it's sad about 9 to 15 of the bombers in each raid was shot down and deep penetration raids it spiked to 60 to 80+ bombers were shot down them bombers boys are by far the bravest to knowingly go into a plane with a chance of burning alive or the plane getting shot down and they get stuck in the turrets (no not calling the rest of the people not brave because by God they are very brave)

The aura you had knowing that you only had fuel for a few hours so you either had to crush them early or turn tail to refuel and most likely get shot down or it was literally all or nothing

I’m lucky enough that my grandfather on my mother’s side was a WWII pilot. I could listen to his stories for hours. Nolan James Bartoskewitz. 508th Fighter Group of the 20th Army Air Corps. OCTOBER 20, 1925 – MARCH 7, 2015. If you haven’t spoken to a WWII veteran, find one ASAP and just talk to them. Truly the greatest generation.
