Japan just arrested two Chilean men in Osaka who stole $1.2 million in watches from a Tokyo mall in 10 seconds. The two men, in their 20s and 30s, had entered Japan only days before the heist. On Tuesday just before noon, they walked into a watch shop on the first floor of Nakano Broadway, the famous anime and collectibles complex in Tokyo. One smashed the glass display case near the entrance with a hammer. They grabbed four watches — Richard Mille and Patek Philippe pieces — worth a combined 200 million yen. The whole thing took about 10 seconds. One ran off on foot. The other rode away on a rented electric kick scooter. Police found the scooter, along with clothing and hats, abandoned about 400 meters away. Security cameras caught at least one of them inside JR Nakano Station, and police suspected they fled by train. On Thursday night, Tokyo police investigators tracked them down in Osaka and arrested them. One was still carrying a watch of the same brand as the stolen ones. Five staff were in the shop during the theft. Nobody was hurt.
