A filmmaker who interviewed Duane "Keffe D" Davis' for the docuseries "Death Row Chronicles" testified that he did not coach or coerce Davis into talking about Tupac Shakur's murder. Jurors in Davis' murder trial saw footage during Mario Diaz's testimony on Friday (August 21, day 5) from Davis' interviews for the series, which were conducted in 2017. "I pride myself in making sure that my work meets the strictest journalistic standards. I did not coach him in any way. We, you know, we had meetings where I generally, you know, very brief meetings when he was in the office, where I generally told him sort of where I was going with my questioning, but there was no poaching, no coercion, no you know nothing of the sort. It was not nothing was predetermined. I never provided questions ahead of time, either," Diaz said. In one recording played in court, a narrator says, "The last living eyewitness to Tupac's murder is telling a story." "Why are you now telling me what you're telling me?" Diaz asks. "Because I wanted to get the truth out," Davis says. He looks at the camera and says, "You ready?" Davis continues on to say that they realized Shakur was nearby because women were yelling "Tupac" and Shakur was leaning out the car window. "You said the shots came from the back. Big Dre, Orlando. Who shot Tupac?" Diaz asks. "Going to keep it for the cold of the streets. It just came from the back seat, bro," Davis says."I mean, honestly, what's your concern revealing who shot Tupac?" Diaz asks. "What's my concern? I don't have no concern. I just won't be saying. I'm no f***ing rat," Davis says. After the footage played, Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo asked Diaz if anyone else was present for the interview besides he and a second filmmaker, Mike Dorsey. "Mr. Davis brought his lawyer," Diaz said, identifying him as Wayne Higgins. "So he had a lawyer with him while doing this with you?" DiGiacomo asked. Davis is accused of organizing Tupac's murder as part of a feud between the South Side Crips and the Mob Piru gang, which was tied to the Bloods, and as retaliation for Shakur attacking Orlando Anderson earlier that night at the MGM Grand casino in connection with a gang brawl at the Lakewood Mall in California weeks earlier. Davis, 63, has been in jail since his arrest on Sept. 29, 2023. Testimony continues on Monday (August 24, day 6) in Judge Carli Kierny's courtroom in Nevada's 8th Judicial District in Las Vegas. #law #court #crime
