what makes Scarface hit so hard Tony didn’t really lose because he failed to get what he wanted he lost because getting everything he wanted changed him. He wanted money got it. He wanted power got it. He wanted respect got it. He wanted control got more than enough. But the more he got, the more paranoid and isolated he became. The mansion, money, cars, and empire couldn’t give him the peace or loyalty he thought they would. The line “He became the very thing he thought would save him” is honestly one of the best ways to summarize Tony’s entire tragedy.

Tony’s tragedy is that he got everything he thought would make him happy, but the power, paranoia, and need for control slowly destroyed him. By the end, he had everything materially, yet nothing emotionally. He became the very thing he thought would save him.
