Heavy metals are one of the biggest toxic burdens I see in my patients, particularly aluminum. Unfortunately everyone has some exposure, many people accumulate these metals over a lifetime through food, water, cookware, personal care products, medications, and our everyday environment. We can't eliminate exposure entirely—but we can reduce it and support our body's natural detoxification systems. One of the best strategies is actually really simple--to eat a nutrient dense diet. Getting adequate minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, zinc, and other trace minerals can offset the effects of heavy metal exposure. When your body is deficient in essential minerals, it absorbs more of certain toxic metals from the gut. We have to “out nourish” ourselves in our increasingly toxic world. Some other simple ways to lower your exposure: - Drink filtered water to reduce contaminants. (the AquaTru water filter is a good option- it is linked in my bio for $100 off :) -Choose third-party tested supplements to mimize contamination. - Use clean, non-toxic cosmetics and personal care products whenever possible. @araza beauty is my fav for makeup (code CONNEALY15) - Store and reheat food in glass. - Use parchment paper instead of aluminum foil. - Limit unnecessary use of aluminum cookware and containers, especially with acidic foods. - Eat a nutrient-dense diet rich in minerals, antioxidants, and fiber to support your body's natural detoxification processes. - Support regular bowel movements through adequate hydration and fiber, as this is one of the body's primary routes of elimination. Our world is more toxic than ever before, which is why reducing unnecessary exposures is one of the most important investments you can make. Small, intentional choices can reduce your toxic burden over time.
