@birthofamother: Signs you could be diabetic 😢 The hot weather confused a lot of my symptoms but there absolutely were signs. The best thing to do is know your family history! As soon as my symptoms became obvious to be I knew it was diabetes and was unfortunately proven right! Knowledge is power ✨ Look after yourself ❤️ @Diabetes UK @NHS - #womenshealth #diabetic #diabetes #healthiswealth #blackwomenoftiktok

Thanks for sharing! Hope you’re okay :) You may have already done this so *very* sorry if this is unsolicited advice, but ask them to check your blood for antibodies to check if it’s late onset Type 1 too because I had a lot of your symptoms and they were sooooo close to misdiagnosing me as Type 2, but it was Type 1 (the autoimmune kind). It was the pharmacist at my GP who had the inkling to think it was Type 1. My GP was *not* on the ball in the slightest. Grateful that she caught it otherwise things would’ve deteriorated for so much longer without the proper diagnosis 🥲

Hope you’re ok, it’s so daunting when you first get diagnosed. I got diagnosed 2 years ago at 33, it gets better and easier as you learn how best to manage it for yourself 🫶🏻

Yup. Had all those symptoms, but because it was bang in the middle of the heatwave I didn’t think anything of drinking 4 litres a day. But the peeing got some bad at one point, I swear I needed to pre every 15 mins. If it’s any consolation, it’s 8 weeks down the line, complete diet reset and on medication but my blood sugar is averaging around 5 mmol/L a day. You can do it!

I’m sorry to hear this - it probably down to genetics. Unfortunately us Caribbeans are prone to this.

Thanks for being so open Lauren. Can you explain the process for getting a diagnosis (eg what tests the doctor did)?

It sounds like you have MODY Onset Diabetes which is a late onset type 1 rather than type 2. That’s less lifestyle and more genetic as well. But you’ve got it 💪🏿
