Yesterday afternoon at the Robinswood Park a potential behavioral health male assaulted a child participating in a summer camp. The call over the scanner app OpenMHz at 1:42 pm. The dispatcher shared with officers that there was a disturbance at the Robinswood Park in the north lot. A subject was reported for throwing items at children at a summer camp. He threw a lighter and a couple of toys. The subject was described as possibly suffering from a behavioral health episode and was punching the goalposts at time of call. The subject was described as a white male in his 30s to 40s, 5’10, 180 lbs, bald, wearing shorts and no shirt, carrying a blue backpack and a skateboard. He was last seen headed southbound towards the playground. It was initially reported that no children were hit or injured and camp counselors were “herding” the children away. Then moments later their call notes updated that a child was indeed hit by a lighter. “Lighter struck a child” The police responded to this call and began area checking for the subject. An officer spotted him walking south on the SE side of the parking lot. They headed through the wood line towards the fire station but then he began running. The air closed. He was last seen running into the woods but his direction from there was unknown as the trail splits. Officers continued to respond and area check. They started checking the area of the two church’s and fire station. Probable cause was established for Obstruction and terry for Assault. They had to wait on parents for probable cause for Assault. A drone went up on this call. An officer area checked on foot behind the Toyota dealership. Another officer was on a trail by a church. Then the subject was located by another officer at/near Dairy Queen. He was detained on contact. They asked for the Fire Department to do an evaluation on an 11 year old with hand pain. The male was positively identified in a field show. On the data line they ran his name and the subject had a misdemeanor warrant. The officer running his name said they would book him on new charges - so they didn’t confirm his warrant at that time. His booking in Score Jail doesn’t show any new charges for Obstruction or Assault related to this incident. He was booked on a misdemeanor warrant out of Kirkland for Assault in the Fourth Degree. Bail $1K. #BellevueWA
