HAMR takes that waste wood. ⚡ Renewable electricity and hydrogen turn it into methanol, then into sustainable aviation fuel. The same fuel that flies a plane. 📊 600,000 tonnes of forestry residue a year, into around 140 million litres of aviation fuel. HAMR estimates about 85% lower emissions than fossil fuels. 💰 The money is staged. $12.5 million now, $19.5 million once co-funding lands. It's the first project backed under the government's $250 million low carbon liquid fuels priority. 🏗 Started in Melbourne in 2020 by engineers Alex Smith and David Stribley. Stribley says it leads to the first fuel refinery built in Australia in 40 years. Aviation is brutally hard to run without fossil fuel.
