Ugh. If I cried I was "manipulative" but if I didn't react I was a "sociopath." Big problem was I grew up with a mentally ill parent who punished me for showing emotion as well. Now they're both out of my life I laugh loudly and cry without fear.

It's obviously not the same, but my dad always gets upset when I am sad/crying because he think I am pretending. I get punished for it too, so I usually only cry at night, and make sure to be quiet about it. When I was younger and I was playing with toys, he would take them away from me, and give me random punishment for not studying whenever he saw I was too happy.

Yep, they hyper fixate on every expression so we learned to have a poker face. My parents were constantly watching my facial expressions even when I was talking to my siblings or cousins. I had to be careful otherwise I'd get punished.
