@drtazmd: PEOPLE PLEASING HAS A COST The woman everyone relies on may be the one no one remembers to check on. Dr. Judith Joseph explains how women are often conditioned to become the dependable people pleasers. They put their children first, maintain the career-mom facade, care for aging parents, go above and beyond at work, and rarely complain. Those qualities are frequently praised and rewarded. But constantly prioritizing everyone else can leave women with little time or energy to care for themselves. Women experience substantially higher rates of depression and anxiety, and nearly 80% of people with autoimmune diseases are women. These disparities are complex and cannot be attributed to people pleasing alone, but Dr. Judith argues that cultural expectations, caregiving pressure, and chronic self-neglect deserve a place in the conversation.
