What emotion are you actually experiencing? Dr. Judith Joseph explains a psychological technique called affect labeling, which means identifying an emotion and putting it into words. Research suggests that naming a feeling may reduce emotional reactivity and help regulate distress. Saying “I feel anxious,” “I feel disappointed,” or “I feel overwhelmed” can replace some of the uncertainty with clarity and validation.
