I often joke about how I’m a very different person than I was 5 years ago, but truly a lot has changed, and more than just dying my hair black & adding a bunch of tattoos ;) There’s nothing bad about who I was in my early and mid 20s. That’s the type of person I needed to be at that time in my life and I was happy then too! Growing up in Nebraska, I was primarily shown a very traditional type of lifestyle. Go to high school, go to college, get married, secure your job, have kids, get a house, and probably live in NE your whole life. I’ll be honest, living anywhere outside of Nebraska always seemed terrifying to me. Traveling was scary, change was even more frightening, and at the time, predictability was comforting. I married someone I had been dating since I was 18, we started to travel more together, and eventually moved into the van. Traveling full time and seeing how other people lived non-traditional lives was extremely eye opening. You mean I don’t have to live in a house in the suburbs of Nebraska...? It felt like I was just starting my life and I was only 26. In connection to feeling like I was just starting my life...for the longest time I thought that the desire to have kids would be some sort of light switch moment. Like I would turn 28 and all of a sudden be like YEAH! Well, surprise! That didn’t happen. (we could have an entire chat on that but I’ll save it for now) Cue some extremely hard decisions, emotionally draining therapy sessions, and now I’m divorced and have been on my own for over a year now. When I was going through the realization that my life was about to blow up, one of the biggest things that kept popping in my head was that it’s too late. Too late for my life to change. Too late to start over. I was ✨terrified✨ Turns out all of those thoughts in my head were 100% false and it’s never too late :) Saying this last year has taught me a lot doesn’t even feel like an accurate way to describe it. I feel like I could write an entire book on everything that has gone through my brain and that still wouldn’t be enough. All that to say, I have absolutely no idea what my life will look like 1, 2 or 5 years from now and that’s okay!!! #solofemaletraveler
