@our.journey.with.olive: Oliver is three years old. He has tantrums, opinions, a very strong will and, apparently, some serious acting skills. This video is probably one of the best glimpses into his real personality: pretending to be deeply asleep, complete with HEAVY SNORING, because therapy is simply not on his agenda today. And we love that about him. Lately, we have received more comments accusing us of “marketing” our child or using his disability for money, attention or fame. Yes, social media has helped us financially. We have never hidden that. Caring for a child with a disability comes with enormous costs. But this community has given us much more than that. It has given us support, knowledge, connections and people who understand a reality that can feel incredibly lonely. And maybe another family at the beginning of this journey sees Oliver laughing, playing, singing, being stubborn and pretending to sleep through therapy and realizes that life can still contain joy. That is why we share. We want people to know Oliver, not only his disability. We want disability to be visible. We want children like him to be part of conversations about inclusion instead of being hidden away. There is nothing glamorous about our reality. There is simply a family doing everything possible for a little boy we love beyond words.
