stoner is one of the worst books to read if you feel like you’re wasting your life. Personally, I believe that most people feel that way about themselves because 1. they don’t do anything that they acknowledge as being worthwhile and 2. they don’t do any of these things because it feels pointless and they have given up hope with even trying. The moral of the story of Stoner’s life is that almost everybody lives a quotidian life that is filled with a handful of small joys and whenever you make the decision to up the baseline quality of your life it will buck you in the face like a wild mannered horse. Stoner marries a woman he likes that liked him but she ends up drifting apart from him and turns in his daughter on him largely due to circumstance. He then makes some apt seeming decisions regarding his family causing him to lose contact with them whilst in pursuit of his newfound passion in english literature. Ultimately he dies living an unfulfilled, unsatisfying and spice-less life with almost no one around him whilst his world turns its back on him. People feeling aimless and unhappy about their life need joy, don’t bother reading stoner
